SENSIBLE ACTIVITES
Project in Progress
A series of exercises, a picnic, a journey, a disappointing day out, an English entertainment.
Developed in collaboration with Athina Vahla
SENSIBLE ACTIVITIES facilitate ways of sensing (seeing, hearing, but also tasting, touching) that are related specifically to mediated forms of engaging those senses. Ideas are drawn from how we experience, make, construct, exist within a contemporary landscape of digital media. They are, however, explicitly divorced from this landscape, transposed away from technological apparatuses and contexts into natural environments, and landscapes.
They are an attempt to render the effect of an intermediated state of embodiment and perception as quasi-rustic experiences.
SENSIBLE ACTIVITIES are about creating creative, sensory, performative and participatory experiences away from digital technology, and technological infrastructures of performance and space.
They are inherently interior experiences, non-recordable, non-documentable, non-commodifiable.
SENSIBLE ACTIVITIES are not bound to a particular format, or order, or performance structure. One could think of them rather as a ‘suite’ of ideas. Not designed to have a through line or narrative, or teleology, but rather intended as contrasting, affective, varied, colourful. They can, however, be placed within a linear context - the structure of the walk, the journey, the passage into and out of nature feels appropriate for this.
